Boiler Conversion Glasgow
Upgrade from an outdated gravity cylinder or hearth back boiler to a modern, high-pressure condensing combi boiler. Reclaim your attic space and airing cupboard with zero hidden extras.
Our 5-Stage Glasgow Conversion Protocol
Converting from tanks to a combi requires structural planning and pressure verification. Here is exactly how our Gas Safe engineers execute your conversion:
Mains Pressure Audit
We measure your dynamic incoming Scottish Water pressure (bar) and flow rate (L/min) to confirm combi suitability.
Drain & Tank Removal
Drain system completely. Safely disconnect, drain, cut out and remove the loft cold tank and airing cupboard cylinder.
Gas Line 22mm Upgrade
Modern high-output combis require a 22mm gas supply. We upgrade undersized 15mm legacy pipework from your meter.
Chemical Powerflush
High-velocity magnetic flush to strip decades of magnetite sludge before the new sensitive combi is connected.
Commission & Certify
Mount new boiler, test flues, calibrate gas-to-air combustion, register warranty, and issue Scottish CP56 building certificate.
Before & After: Reclaim Valuable Living Space
See the dramatic transformation when converting from an open-vent gravity setup to an on-demand combi.
Wasted Space & Gravity Restrictions
- ❌ Attic Loft: Cluttered by 50-gallon cold water cistern + header tank prone to freezing and contamination.
- ❌ Airing Cupboard: 150-litre copper cylinder takes up the entire wardrobe or hall storage space.
- ❌ Sluggish Showers: Low gravity pressure (0.2–0.4 bar) requiring noisy electric booster pumps.
- ❌ Waiting for Reheat: If the cylinder runs out, you wait 40 minutes for the immersion or boiler to heat another bath.
100% Space Reclaimed & Unlimited Hot Water
- ✅ Attic Loft: Completely cleared of tanks — ready for loft conversion, floorboarding, or dry clean storage.
- ✅ Airing Cupboard: Cylinder removed — converted into a linen closet, walk-in wardrobe, or pantry.
- ✅ Power Showers: Direct mains pressure hot water delivered at 2.5–3.0 bar with zero booster pump noise.
- ✅ Endless Hot Water: Water heated instantaneously on demand — never runs cold no matter how many back-to-back baths.
The Glasgow Water Pressure & Lead Pipework Verification
A combi boiler delivers hot water at whatever pressure comes through your cold mains. In older Glasgow properties (especially tenements in Partick, Dennistoun, and Shawlands), incoming lead water supply pipes can restrict water volume.
Before any conversion contract is finalized, our heating engineers conduct a dynamic flow rate test at your kitchen tap. If flow is below 12 litres/min, we advise on lead replacement or high-capacity system boiler alternatives.
Back Boiler & Hearth Fireplace Decommissioning
Many post-war Glasgow homes still have obsolete Baxi Bermuda back boilers hidden behind living room gas fires. These cast-iron units run at under 60% efficiency and replacement parts are no longer manufactured.
We safely isolate the hearth gas supply, remove the old chimney flue liner, cap off redundant pipework behind the fireplace, and install a brand new condensing combi boiler in an upstairs cupboard, kitchen, or utility room.

Boiler Conversion: Glasgow Homeowner FAQs
Essential facts about converting from tanks to a high-efficiency combi boiler.
Our engineers prioritize your comfort. On a standard 2-day conversion, we have your new combi boiler hung, connected to the gas line, and heating your radiators by the end of Day 1. Day 2 is dedicated to tank removal, chemical powerflushing, and final balancing.
Because a combi operates at mains pressure (1.5–2.0 bar) rather than gravity (0.3 bar), our engineers conduct a pressure integrity test on your pipework before commissioning. Any corroded radiator valves or suspect joints are upgraded during the installation to guarantee zero leaks.
All old galvanised or plastic attic tanks and copper cylinders are drained, cut down if necessary to fit through the loft hatch, and removed completely from your premises for licensed SEPA recycling. We leave your attic and airing cupboard clean and empty.
Yes. As Gas Safe registered engineers, we notify Glasgow City Council (or your relevant local authority in Lanarkshire/Renfrewshire) through Gas Safe upon completion. You will receive an official Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (CP56) essential for home sales.
